Description:

Elegant Venetian mirror, dating back to the mid-19th century, an example of lagoon craftsmanship still deeply inspired by the Rococo splendor of the previous century. Made of carved and lacquered wood, adorned with floral decorations.

The frame, shaped with a flowing and asymmetrical profile, features a succession of scrolls, curls, and phytomorphic motifs that follow one another along the entire perimeter, creating a sense of movement and lightness typical of 18th-century taste, which remained highly appreciated in 19th-century Venice. The ochre yellow lacquer, now aged and partially worn, reveals warm undertones that harmonize beautifully with the hand-painted floral decorations.

Of particular note is the upper crest, adorned with a dense raised composition of floral and leafy elements, culminating in a central painted motif: a small bucolic scene rendered in delicate tones. This pictorial detail is not uncommon in contemporary Venetian mirrors, often designed to serve as decorative artworks beyond their reflective function.

The mirror is original and shows several areas of oxidation.
