Description:

The painting depicts a typical mountain scene in Vigo di Fassa (a village located in Val di Fassa, in the heart of the Dolomites, northern Italy), rendered with a warm and delicate palette that contrasts with the cool tones of the snow. The stone and wooden houses, covered by a thick blanket of snow, emerge in perspective along the road leading to the heart of the village. In the background, the Dolomites rise majestically, illuminated by pink and blue reflections that evoke the light of sunset or early morning.

In the foreground, two female figures wrapped in winter garments walk slowly through the snow, giving the landscape a sense of everyday life and mountain intimacy. The artist adopts a synthetic and vibrant brushstroke, almost impressionistic, that conveys the muffled atmosphere of the Alpine landscape, avoiding details in favor of luminous and chromatic rendering.

The painting stands as a pictorial testimony of life in the Dolomite villages during the first half of the 20th century, where nature and rural architecture coexist in harmony. The choice of oil on panel underlines the artist’s intent to give material compactness to the scene, with rapid and textured touches of color that enhance the freshness of the snowy landscape.

On the back, some inscriptions indicate the date, 1921, and the subject, Vigo di Fassa.
