Marcelliano Canciani (1873–1953)

Italian painter active between the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. Originally from the Turin area, he devoted most of his work to Alpine landscapes, with particular focus on the eastern sections of the range. His painting is characterized by direct, observational naturalism, free from rhetorical accents, and by an atmospheric rendering that favors clear lighting conditions and detailed depictions of mountain morphology. He worked during a transitional moment between late naturalism and early modern tendencies, while maintaining a traditional approach centered on the immediate perception of the landscape.
