Blum studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts with Ludwig von Löfftz and Ludwig Lindenschmit. He was a portrait and landscape painter in Nuremberg and later devoted himself to genre painting, which he executed in the “en plein air” style. Later, Blum became a professor at the Munich School of Applied Arts.
