Description:

Painting depicting a winter alpine landscape, with the Kalkkögel mountain range in Austria unfolding in the background in a sequence of jagged and compact peaks. The snow-covered mountains are rendered through layered brushwork, where rocky masses emerge through tonal variations of blues, greys, and cool whites, suggesting depth and distance.

In the foreground, a snow-covered slope leads the viewer’s eye toward the center of the composition, marked by a barely suggested path. A series of evergreen fir trees breaks the whiteness of the ground, creating a vertical rhythm that guides the reading of the artwork. The light is diffuse and even, devoid of sharp contrasts, contributing to an atmosphere of calm and stability.
The Kalkkögel massif, in the Stubai Alps, is also known as the Dolomites of North Tyrol due to its spectacular dolomitic formations: spires, light-colored rock faces, and jagged profiles that immediately recall the appearance of the Italian Dolomites.
