Origin: Germany
Artist: H. Horn
Technique: oil on canvas
Artwork dimensions: 70 x 100 cm
Description:
The painting depicts an aerial view of the Bernina massif during a Foehn storm, rendered through an oil-on-canvas technique characterized by a pronounced layering of material. The artist represents the snow-covered ridges with dense and irregular brushstrokes, shaping the glacial surfaces and rocky slopes with a marked sense of relief. The chromatic range is dominated by cool whites, greys and dark browns, used to define shadowed areas and the structure of the emerging rock formations.
In the upper part of the composition, a compact sky appears, with moving clouds enveloping the mountains in the background, suggesting a changeable meteorological atmosphere. In the foreground, the main ridge is depicted with particular attention to the tactile variations of the snow, applied in different thicknesses to create an effect of diffused light.
On the reverse, the date and the cartouche with the artist’s signature are present.
