Venice and its lagoon have always been the destination of painters from all over the world. Even the great names in the history of art have stopped among its streets and canals to paint it. Below is a selection of mostly Venetian works, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the painters in the gallery were Venetians and painted their own city, from secluded and little-known views to tourism up to Piazza San Marco.
