This large-scale oil on canvas painting, signed by Emil Maier, portrays a snow-covered alpine landscape at sunset. The piece stands out for its remarkable scenic impact, effectively capturing the rich atmosphere and warm light of the setting sun. The composition is dominated by a fir forest in the foreground, whose trunks and branches catch the grazing light, rendered through thick and substantial impasto in warm tones of ochre, cadmium yellow, and white. The snow blanket features a dense network of long, defined shadows painted in cool hues ranging from violet to dark blue, creating a striking contrast with the illuminated areas.

The background reveals a wide horizon line, surmounted by a sky characterized by overlapping chromatic bands that smoothly transition from golden yellow to purple and mauve. The brushwork is vigorous and textured, clearly visible in the vegetation details and the rendering of atmospheric light.
