Dated 1704 antique painted chest

Rare antique fir wood painted chest, dating back to 1704, featuring hand-forged iron hardware and polychrome floral decorations.

Description:

An exquisite antique fir wood chest, distinguished by a domed lid structure and prominent hand-forged iron reinforcing hardware. Set against a rich warm red background are delicate grey-toned floral motifs and the inscription of the creation date “1704” in the upper right corner.
The front surface is dominated by a complex lock system: a shaped central escutcheon complete with a period coeval key, flanked on the sides by a double lock mechanism with padlocks (not present).
The sides are fitted with iron lifting handles, while the profile of the lid is finished with shaped metal elements, exuding a luxurious historic patina.

Interventions carried out on all our furniture:

– Structural restoration: repair of minor missing parts, sealing of any cracks on the backboard, consolidation of deteriorated areas, inspection and repair of hardware.
– Thorough woodworm treatment.
– Cleaning and sanitization of interiors.
– Exterior finish with natural beeswax.
– Interior finish with shellac, a natural alcohol-based varnish.
