Description:

Elegant pair of carved wooden armchairs, lacquered and hand-decorated, crafted in Venice around the mid-19th century in the Venetian Rococo style, reinterpreted through a 19th-century neoclassical lens.

The structure, light and dynamic in form, is entirely lacquered in an ochre yellow shade, with surfaces further embellished by delicate polychrome floral motifs evenly distributed across the armrests, backrests, and lower rails. The painted decoration retains a chromatic freshness that harmonizes beautifully with the patina of time, giving the pieces a lived-in yet authentic charm.

The backrests feature a shaped frame with a sinuous profile and a central carving in the form of an inverted figure eight—a symbol often associated with infinity or the lover’s knot, a recurring motif in Venetian Rococo design. The armrests, also sculpted and slightly curved, gracefully connect to the front of the seat, creating a sculptural harmony among the different structural elements.

The saber-shaped legs end in small curls and are joined to the seat by a carved apron, adorned in the center with a stylized shell motif—another typical element of the 18th-century decorative repertoire.
